PC Shares the Memories that Made NANOG 88
by Elizabeth Drolet
Another conference has come and gone but the memories will last forever!
The NANOG Programming Committee (PC) shared their favorite moments from our most recent meeting, NANOG 88.
Seeing Diversity Within the Community + Programming
“My favorite N88 moment was seeing the diverse crowd. There were attendees from all backgrounds, genders, and ages. The most epic moment was to attend two sessions on diversity. And of course my biggest takeaway as a leader was to keep in mind how a team and organization with a diverse culture can be more productive and successful”
Kam Agahian - Oracle Director of Cloud Engineering
Keynote ft. Len Bosack - “From Data Links to Internets”
“It was wonderful having NANOG close to home with great weather in Seattle! There were many great moments, but my favorite was the Keynote by Len Bosack. His viewpoint of early networking as a founder of Cisco was fascinating, especially the decisions and tradeoffs that had to be made in order to build a useful product, and how those led to where we are today.”
Steve Feldman - Paramount Principal Network Architect
SPIN Social, Ping-Pong, + The Talks
I really enjoyed the ping-pong tournament and the SPIN Social event on Tuesday night. This is mainly because I like and have played ping pong before. For the actual NANOG 88 conference content, I liked the talks. My favorites included, Deep Dive on AWS Networking Infrastructure, Protecting Critical Infrastructure Against Ransom DDoS Attacks, and the BGP Techniques for Network Operators Tutorial.”
Steve Plote - Retired
Making a Roomful of People Groan at a Pun
“My favorite memory was making a roomful of people groan at a pun. I think that's self-explanatory.”
Adair Thaxton - Internet2 Cyberinfrastructure Security Engineer
The Engaging Talks and Panels
“NANOG 88 was replete with exciting talks ranging from API-driven network automation to RPKI (Resource Public Key Infrastructure). One of the standout sessions was an enlightening panel headed by Louie Lee from Google Fiber, titled, How to Survive at a Large Conference as an Introvert. This panel was not only relatable for many attendees but also provided valuable insights into navigating the social aspects of large conferences. The panel featured Maurice Dean, Lee Howard, Kathleen Hunter, and Adair Thaxton, who shared their experiences and tips for introverts.”
Kate Gerry - NetActuate Director of Global Networking
