About the DEIC
The Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) is designed to support, engage and encourage diversity and acceptance within the greater NANOG community. The key to building the "Internet of tomorrow" is ensuring that everyone is welcome, included, and represented. NANOG has committed itself to improve DEI efforts within our community, but such desires are hollow if not supported by strategic and consistent efforts. Changing the status quo is only met by intention, not by accident.
Diversity is strongly associated with racial diversity and that is just one dimension. When NANOG speaks of diversity we speak of diversity in race, gender, language, religion, geographical location, social roles, sexual orientation, education, skills, income, brain function, manners, culture, and countless other domains. At NANOG we strive to create an inclusive culture that ensures all people feel respected and valued for who they are as an individual or group.
The Committee has the following responsibilities:
- Develop a strategic vision for NANOG's DEI initiatives for board approval.
- Determine essential diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and actionable steps to achieve them.
- Help institutionalize policies that support DEI initiatives for our Community.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing efforts and suggest how to improve them.
- Collaborate with existing NANOG Committees to support their DEI initiatives.
- Support and manage the Women in Tech programs.
- Identify and recruit speakers with industry diversity for NANOG conferences and events.
- Work with NANOG's ombuds to incorporate their feedback observations into strategic direction or policies for board consideration.
- Cultivate and encourage diverse candidates to run for NANOG committees and board seats.
- Ensure that all DEI efforts adhere to the NANOG Code of Conduct.
- Provide quarterly reports regarding DEI efforts to the Board and our Community.

Clara Wade (She/Her)
Amazon Web Services |
2024 |
Clara entered the community five years ago, when she was leading the team making IPv4 address transactions safer at Escrow.com from the office in her hometown, Buenos Aires, Argentina. At her first NANOG meeting she met the woman who, four years later, would recruit her to help develop the IP address strategy at AWS, where she is also an inclusion ambassador. Having attended multiple NOGs and RIR meetings across four regions, she loves connecting with people from different parts of the world and has seen first-hand the impact that being included in this diverse community can have towards professional and personal development. She aspires to help make these opportunities accessible to more people.
